Equipment

Mac mini

Dedicated to lighting, running macOS 14 or later. Keep local display access for recovery.

Pioneer DJM-A9

Connect by USB. Route MIX(REC OUT without MIC) to USB 1/2 on the connected bank.

Art-Net node

An ENTTEC ODE Mk3 provides two DMX outputs for this rig. Add isolated splitting where cable branches require it.

Network

Wired switch for the Mac and node, plus staff Wi-Fi with internet for the iPad.

Installation

Rated mounting, power, terminated DMX lines and service access. Haze makes aerial beams more visible.

SET UP VERY LIT

Set up Very Lit

STEP 1

Design the room

Place the DJ and dance floor. Group overhead beams, moving washes, perimeter color and booth bars. Match fixture orientation to the installation.

STEP 2

Patch the fixtures

Select exact models and modes, match physical addresses and assign the two universes.

STEP 3

Connect the Mac mini

Link the Mac app and load the house show. Connect the A9, set USB 1/2 to its recording mix and select that audio input. Check for clipping.

STEP 4

Route Art-Net

Set the node destination and map both universes to its outputs. Check whether the node numbers universes from zero or one.

STEP 5

Commission the show

Test every group, audio response, remote controls and Blackout. Rehearse a restart and USB reconnect; keep local Mac access available.

IPAD OVER WI-FI

Control the show from the dance floor.

Adjust energy and colors as you walk the room. Hold Drop for a deliberate musical moment.

Run your show on the Mac mini. Connect both the Mac and iPad to the internet.
On the iPad, open verylit.club/remote in Safari and sign in with the show’s account.
Adjust energy, choose a palette or select Blackout in Modes.
